DeKalb, IL Engagement Photographer
Last Fall I met Kelly while photographing her sister’s wedding. This Fall I got to photographer her engagement pictures. Next almost-Fall (Labor Day weekend) I get to photographer her wedding. That’s three years of Kelly in a row and I am NOT mad about it!
Phil and Kelly were a blast to photograph. From the first minute to the very end of the shoot they were just so darn cute and cuddly together, and if they were nervous at all I couldn’t tell. One of the things I like about engagement shoots that I don’t really get to do during a wedding day is to observe a couple’s personality. Wedding days are just so crazy and emotions are all over the place so it can be tough to get an accurate feel for a couple’s energy if I’ve never met them before. Obviously couples are happy, excited, joyful, etc. on a wedding day, and that’s what usually comes out in the pictures, but at engagement sessions I can get a real sense of how a couple interacts in the quieter moments of life. They have more time and less pressure to just sink in to who they are together. With Phil and Kelly, the tone of their shoot was one of fun and comfort. They love to laugh together, but they’re also down for a good snuggle. They genuinely enjoy each other’s company and feel completely secure in each other’s love. Those things are so helpful for me to know on a wedding day which is why I really try to get all of my couples to do an engagement session if it’s possible. It doesn’t always work because of distance or time or whatnot, and that doesn’t mean we won’t get great images at the wedding, it just means that I have to work harder on the wedding day. ;)
ANYWAYS. That was a bit of a ramble. Here are some of my favorites from Phil & Kelly’s shoot!!
